Visitors’ Rules

In the interests of the animals and other visitors, the following rules must be followed:

  • For safety reasons, children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for the children under their supervision during their visit.
  • All of our animals are given feed that is tailored precisely to their dietary requirements and disposition. A strict feeding ban is in place in all parts of the zoo to safeguard the animals’ wellbeing and to prevent them from begging for food.
  • Climbing over barriers and reaching into enclosures is strictly forbidden and poses a significant danger to animals and humans.
  • Animals also need rest. Please do not attempt to attract their attention by calling out loudly, knocking on windows or similar. Playing loud music or musical instruments or otherwise making excessive noise is not permitted.
  • Visitors are welcome to make video clips and take photographs for private purposes. However, commercial shoots require a permit from the zoo’s management. Please make sure that you comply with the ban on flash photography in force in some parts of the zoo.
  • Please note that dogs and other animals cannot be taken into any part of the palace grounds – including the zoo. Visitors are also asked to keep off the grass. Assistance dogs (with ID card, immunisation record and official assistance dog harness vest) are permitted. The following vaccinations are mandatory for all service dogs entering the zoo: rabies, distemper, parvovirus,  leptospirosis and infectious canine hepatitis (ICH). An up-to-date immunisation record must be presented at the ticket desk.
  • Bicycles, inline skates, skateboards, scooters etc. cannot be used on the zoo premises. Ball games, Frisbees etc. are not allowed, and visitors may not bring balloons with them into the zoo.
  • Please help to keep the zoo tidy by using the bins provided.
  • Instructions issued by employees of the zoo must be followed at all times.
  • Staff members are entitled to ask any visitors who do not comply with the house rules to leave the zoo.
  • Please keep your admission ticket safe and be prepared to show it to a member of staff if asked to do so. Tickets are no longer valid once you leave the zoo.
  • Annual passes are only valid in conjunction with a photo ID, which must be presented each time you visit the zoo. They are strictly non-transferrable and will be confiscated without replacement in the event of misuse.
  • Please ensure that you are familiar with closing times, as advertised at the entrances and announced via loudspeaker shortly before closing, as the grounds to Schönbrunn Palace are locked a short time afterwards.
