The Giant Pandas are back!

With an official welcome ceremony, the formal handover of the new panda pair was sealed and our successful cooperation with the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA) was extended for another ten years.
The young panda pair is now visible to our guests!

The female “Lan Yun” and the male “He Feng” were born in stations of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP) in 2020. Their names refer to the fragrance of orchids and the freshness of lotus flowers, reflecting traditional Chinese symbolism. Adult giant pandas are solitary animals. The two pandas therefore live in separate enclosures.

During the past months, we have extensively modernized and expanded the panda-exhibit. In cooperation with a Chinese company, we have redesigned the indoor area using many original Chinese elements. The male's indoor enclosure was extended by around 1/3 of the original area. Ponds and climbing facilities were added to the outdoor facilities. A special highlight: The giant pandas can now be observed directly from the Emperor's Pavilion, the heart of the zoo dating back to 1752!
