Our privacy notice provides details of our data processing procedures, including the type, scope and purpose of data collected when you visit or use our website, or when you contact us by email or using a contact form.   

Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. processes your personal data exclusively in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as well as the Austrian Datenschutzgesetz (Data Protection Act) and Telekommunikationsgesetz (Telecommunications Act).

Contacting us

If you contact us by email, phone, letter, fax or using the contact form on our website, we process the personal data you provide (using the form: name, address, email address, etc.) for the purpose of processing your enquiry and any follow-up questions, or for the purpose of performing a contract. 

Your data are processed by the Public Relations, Marketing & Sales, Zoo Education, and Information & Communication departments, and by Management, and are only transferred to internal recipients or third parties if this is necessary in order to perform a contract, or on the basis of your consent as a website user and/or customer. Processing takes place either in order to take steps prior to entering into a contract, in order to perform a contract, on the basis of consent, or in order to safeguard the controller’s legitimate interests in accordance with Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

If your personal data are processed on the basis of your consent, when you withdraw your consent your data will no longer be processed and will be deleted. Otherwise, personal data are deleted after a reasonable period of time, provided there is no legal obligation or entitlement to retain your data for the purpose of further processing.

Webshop

If you purchase goods, vouchers or services in our webshop, or order goods or services using our contact form, the personal data you provide (incl. name, gender, address, email address and payment method) will be processed in order to perform the contract. The data you provide are essential for performance of the contract and without these data we cannot conclude the contract with you. The data you provide for processing of your payment are only collected and processed through the payment services provider. Payment details are protected by means of encryption and are used solely for payment processing.

Your data are processed internally by our Accounting and Customer Service departments, and are only transferred to internal recipients or third parties if this is necessary in order to perform the contract, or if required by law. The required data are transferred to the transport company in order to deliver ordered goods, and to our Bookkeeping Department. Personal data provided in connection with the purchase of catering and catering services (e.g. vouchers) are transferred to Tiergarten Schönbrunn Gastronomie GmbH, Maxingstrasse 13 b, 1130 Vienna, tel. +43 (0)1 8793556-0, fax: +43 (0)1 8793556-52, office@zoovienna-gastro.at. Data processing required in order to perform a contract is carried out in accordance with Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Personal data are deleted after the statutory retention period expires (seven years under Austrian tax law).

Newsletter/Information/ZOOcard

The personal data you provide in connection with the newsletter and the ZOOcard, and for the purpose of providing information, are processed by the Marketing, Public Relations and Zoo Education departments of Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. (see website credits), in order to provide you with details about the company and special offers, or to send such information by post or email, as well as for internal marketing purposes, and to produce your bonus card (ZOOcard), provided you have applied for such a card. Besides the data you provide, each ZOOcard is assigned a card number which is checked (i.e. processed) along with the expiry date by the partner concerned when you use the card (for details regarding the ZOOcard, see the information provided by e.g. Tiergarten Schönbrunn Gastronomie GmbH). Your ZOOcard number will be transmitted to the respective partner for this purpose.

An up-to-date list of ZOOcard partners can be found on the Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. website (www.zoovienna.at). For the purposes specified above, personal data are transferred to AVS Allgemeine Verwaltungs- und Service GmbH, Josephsplatz 8, 95444 Bayreuth, Germany (the processor). In order to enable delivery of the newsletter, personal data are transferred to MailerLite Limited, Ground Floor, 71 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2, Ireland (the processor). No other personal data are forwarded to third parties.

Processing takes place either on the basis of consent in accordance with Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, or in order to safeguard the controller’s legitimate interests (direct marketing) in the meaning of Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

You have the right at any time to fully or partially withdraw your consent to your personal data being processed. Your personal data will be stored until you withdraw your consent. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing of your personal data carried out prior to withdrawal. Please note that if you withdraw your consent, the aforementioned purposes can no longer be fulfilled, and consequently the ZOOcard will lose its validity.

Animal sponsorships

The personal data you provide on the form/flyer for the purchase of animal sponsorships (including as a gift) will be processed by Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. (see website credits) in order to perform the animal sponsorship agreement, as well as on the basis of said agreement. The sponsor’s name will be used to produce the sponsorship certificate, in accordance with the animal sponsorship agreement. With regard to animal sponsorships purchased as gifts, the individual purchasing the sponsorship will receive a supplementary information sheet in order to provide the gift recipient’s data, to enable processing of their data.

The animal sponsorship also includes delivery of sponsor reports, as well as invitations to exclusive events for sponsors and reports on the respective animal’s area. When concluding an animal sponsorship, the sponsor will receive a voucher for an annual ticket.

On request, the sponsor’s name will also be displayed on our website, and on a plaque at the enclosure of the sponsored animal. Other personal data may be published if requested (e.g. sponsorship of a park bench to mark a birthday, anniversary, engagement, etc.).  

Your data are processed by the Animal Sponsorships, Marketing and Sales, Accounting, and Public Relations departments for the purposes specified above, and are only transferred if this is necessary in order to perform the contract, or if required by law (e.g. where donations are tax deductible).

After the sponsorship expires, the sponsor’s personal data will be removed from the website, and the sponsorship plaque removed from the relevant enclosure after a reasonable period of time. Personal data processed internally are deleted after the statutory retention period expires (usually seven years for tax purposes).

Data relating to sponsorships concluded as gifts are deleted after one year, while data on the website and on the sponsorship plaque will be removed when the sponsorship expires.

Sponsorship

The personal data you provide in the process of concluding a sponsorship agreement are processed by Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. (see website credits) on the basis of and in order to perform the sponsorship agreement. Usually, only the sponsor’s name, the company address, contact details, and names of contact persons including telephone numbers are processed when concluding the sponsorship agreement. If requested, the sponsor’s name will be published on our website. Other personal data may also be published as requested.

Your data are processed by the Marketing and Sales, Partnerships & Corporate Animal Sponsorships, Accounting, Bookkeeping, and Public Relations departments for the purposes specified above, and are only transferred internally or to third parties if this is necessary for performance of the contract, or if required by law.

The data on our website will be deleted when the contractual relationship terminates. Personal data processed internally are deleted after the statutory retention period expires (seven years for tax purposes).

Donations

When donations are made, only the donor’s name and contact details and the amount of the donation will be recorded, provided this information is included in the bank transfer.

The data are processed internally by the Accounting Department, and are only transferred to internal recipients or third parties if this is necessary in order to process the donation, or if required by law. Processing takes place either in order to safeguard the controller’s legitimate interests in the meaning of Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, or in order to comply with a legal obligation.

Personal data processed internally are deleted after the statutory retention period expires (seven years for tax purposes).

Personal data provided in relation to donations made to the Verein der Freunde des Tiergarten Schönbrunn association or in the process of concluding memberships are collected solely by the association. Provided that the individuals concerned give their consent, members’ data are transferred to the Public Relations and Marketing departments, as well as Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. (see website credits), in order to provide members with information on Verein der Freunde des Tiergarten Schönbrunn and Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. by post or email, and for internal marketing purposes.

Processing takes place either on the basis of consent in accordance with Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, or in order to safeguard the controller’s legitimate interests in the meaning of Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

You have the right at any time to fully or partially withdraw your consent to your personal data being processed. Your personal data will be stored until you withdraw your consent. Our online form for donations is provided using the Fundraisingbox tool developed by Wikando GmbH (Schiessgrabenstrasse 32, 86150 Augsburg, Germany). We selected this provider in order to ensure the best possible protection of your personal data at all times, because this means that your personal data are transferred to us via a secure connection. Payment data are transmitted to the relevant payment services provider via an encrypted connection. Donations by direct debit
If you make a donation by direct debit, after submitting the form for donations your data are transferred to our bank, UniCredit Bank Austria, via an encrypted connection.

Donations by credit card
If you make a donation by credit card, your credit card data are transferred exclusively using 256-bit SSL encryption to the web payment front-end system operated by Stripe (510 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA), where the card details are checked against those held by the relevant credit card issuer; creditworthiness and validity are also checked. We do not receive your credit card details and are only informed as to whether payment has been made successfully.

Donations by PayPal
If you make a donation using PayPal, after submitting the donation form you will be redirected to the PayPal website, where you can make the payment in the usual way. We do not receive your account details and only receive information as to whether payment has been made successfully.

We process your address in order to manage donations and for fundraising purposes on the basis of a legitimate interest in accordance with section 6(1)(f) GDPR, in order to send you details of our fundraising work, provided you gave your consent to receive such information. We expressly assure you that your data will only be used for these purposes and will be processed solely by Schönbrunn Zoo. We do not sell details of donors’/supporters’ addresses, or otherwise make such details available to other companies or (like-minded) organisations. You can object to this use of your data at any time.

Tiergarten Schönbrunn Rundblick – in cooperation with Direct Mind

Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. provides regular updates on all the latest news from the zoo in its magazine, Tiergarten Rundblick (German only). The magazine also contains fundraising advertisements. Our partner for this activity is Direct Mind GmbH Dialog Marketing Agentur, Technologiestrasse 8, Postfach 207, 1121 Vienna, Austria (Direct Mind).

The following categories of data are processed:
– Master data
– Contact details
– Other information provided by you, as required
– Past communication
– Previous donations
– Classifications

These data are used in the preparation and execution of fundraising campaigns, in order to fulfil the purposes of the organisation in accordance with its statutes and articles of association, namely communication by post, phone or email as part of such campaigns, as well as the administration of donations received, management of contracts and fulfilment of tax law obligations.

It is necessary to provide names and bank account details for the process of making donations, and in order to comply with tax and money laundering regulations. If these data are not provided, donations and support from sponsors cannot be accepted.

Your data are saved in an electronic database for this purpose. A process by which supporters are grouped according to the amount of their donation, the frequency of their donations and the date of the most recent donation is used in order to identify target groups for such fundraising campaigns.

Data are also processed that have been lawfully obtained from publishers of address lists. These data are basic personal data such as your name and address. Such address list publishers are permitted to transfer data for the purpose of preparing and executing third-party marketing campaigns and for list broking (see section 151 Austrian Gewerbeordnung [Industrial Code]).

In accordance with recital 47 GDPR, the processing of personal data for fundraising purposes represents a legitimate interest if processing is strictly necessary in order to safeguard the legitimate interest and corresponds to the data subject’s reasonable expectations. In this regard, the organisation takes action to achieve objectives in the public interest, pursuant to section 4a Austrian Einkommensteuergesetz (Income Tax Act) and section 34ff. Austrian Bundesabgabenordnung (Federal Tax Code). As a result, the achievement of organisational objectives recognised by the public represents a legitimate interest. The achievement of these publicly recognised organisational objectives is not possible without donations, meaning that data processing is necessary for fundraising purposes.

Visitor gallery (photo community)

The personal data you provide when registering for the photo community and uploading photos are processed – subject to your consent – by Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. (namely by the Public Relations Department; see website credits) and in some cases published on the website (photos including name). Please note that uploaded photos on which individuals are identifiable or recognisable – with the exception of portraits of the individual taking the photo – cannot be published and will be immediately deleted.

You have the right to fully or partially withdraw your consent to your personal data being processed at any time. Your personal data will only be stored or processed until you withdraw your consent. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing of your personal data carried out prior to withdrawal.

Protection of children

Children and young adults under 18 years of age should not transmit personal data to us without the consent of their parents or legal guardians.

Automated data collection/cookies/Google Analytics/social media plug-ins/analytics tool

For technical reasons, among other data, the following usage data is collected by users’ internet browsers:

•   Browser type and version
•   Operating system used
•   Websites visited by the user
•   Data and time of visit
•   Internet protocol (IP) address of the user’s device

These data are stored separately from any other user data that may have been provided (e.g. name, address, email address, language) and are processed for statistical purposes to enable us to optimise the zoovienna.at website and the services offered on the site (see also the section on the Google Analytics tool, below).

Cookies

Our website uses cookies. These are small text files which are saved on your end device with the help of the browser. They do not harm your system. If a user/customer returns to our website by connecting to the server that hosts the site, the user’s/customer’s browser sends the previously received cookie back to the server. The server can evaluate the information generated by this process in various ways. We use cookies to make our website more user-friendly. Some cookies remain on your end device until you delete them. They enable us to recognise your browser when you visit our site again.

If you do not wish this to happen, you can adjust your browser settings so that you are informed about cookie placement and can allow them on a case-by-case basis. Alternatively, you can withhold your consent and prevent the use of all cookies.

Videos are embedded in YouTube’s expanded data protection mode, which blocks the placement of cookies unless you click on the play button. Google Analytics

Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. (“Google”), in order to improve and optimise its website. Google Analytics uses cookies, which are text files stored on the user’s computer that help to analyse website usage. The information generated by cookies about the use of this website is generally transmitted to and stored on a Google server in the USA. Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. has activated the _anonymizeIp() extension on its websites; this means that IP addresses are processed in truncated form so that they cannot be directly linked to individuals. Due to IP anonymisation on this website, users’ IP addresses are truncated by Google within member states of the European Union, or other contracting parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, before processing. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transmitted to a Google server in the USA and truncated there. In its capacity as the processor for Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H., Google will use the information collected from the Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. website by means of Google Analytics for the purpose of evaluating use of the website, compiling reports on website activity and providing Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. with other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Social media plug-ins

Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H.’s online presence uses plug-ins provided by the following social media network:

  • youtube.com, operated by YouTube LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA (“YouTube”)

These plug-ins can be identified by the YouTube logo. The Facebook and Twitter logos are only links and they do not place any cookies.

Data transfer through social media plug-ins

If a user who is registered with a social network visits a Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. website that contains a social media plug-in, and the user is logged into the social network concerned at the time of the visit, the user’s browser connects directly to the social network’s servers by means of cookies placed by the social network as well as the plug-in on the zoovienna.at site. By means of the plug-in, it is also possible for social networks to recognise that a user who is logged in to the social network is currently on the zoovienna.at site, even if the user does not click on the plug-in.

Due to incorporation of the plug-in, the operator of the social network receives information that the user has visited the relevant Schönbrunner Tiergarten-Gesellschaft m.b.H. website. If the user interacts with the social media plug-in, corresponding information is sent directly to and stored by the social media network operator.
